Defect Focus/Orb Build — Become Immortal
The Defect's Focus/Orb build is arguably the most powerful scaling engine in Slay the Spire 2. By stacking Focus and filling Orb slots with Frost Orbs, you generate an unbreakable Block wall that passively blocks all incoming damage — while your Lightning Orbs chip away at enemies turn after turn.
Core Strategy
The build revolves around three pillars:
- Focus Generation — Defragment, Biased Cognition, and Consume are your primary Focus sources. Each point of Focus increases your Frost block and Lightning damage by 1.
- Orb Slots — Capacitor gives you more Orb slots, allowing more simultaneous Frost/Lightning orbs. The more slots, the more passive value per turn.
- Orb Generation — Glacier, Coolheaded, and Cold Snap channel Frost. Ball Lightning and Electrodynamics handle offense.
S-Tier Core Cards
⚡ Win Condition Combo
Defragment+ + Capacitor+ + Glacier+ = 40+ passive Block per turn. You literally cannot die to most encounters.

Build Variants
Frost Wall (Defensive Scaling)
Priority: Glacier → Defragment → Capacitor → Coolheaded
Stack Frost Orbs until you passively generate 30+ Block per turn. Use a single copy of Blizzard (if available) to convert Block into damage.
Lightning Storm (Offensive Scaling)
Priority: Electrodynamics → Defragment → Ball Lightning → Tempest
Channel as many Lightning Orbs as possible. With Focus, each orb deals major damage every turn.
Claw Engine (Zero-Cost Aggro)
Priority: Claw (multiple copies) → All For One → Scrape → Hologram
Not orb-reliant. Each Claw played increases ALL Claw damage by 2. All For One fetches every 0-cost card (including all your Claws) from discard into hand.
Stage-by-Stage Game Plan
- Act 1 — Grab early damage: Ball Lightning, Cold Snap, Compile Driver. Take 1-2 strong attacks to beat elites. First Defragment is an instant pick.
- Act 1 Boss — You should have ~3-4 Orbs channeled by now. Prioritize Glacier if offered. Remove Strikes at shops.
- Act 2 — This is where the build comes online. Capacitor + Defragment + Frost Orbs = you stop taking damage. Avoid taking too many attacks.
- Act 2 Boss — Echo Form or Biased Cognition should carry you. If no Focus yet, prioritize Coolheaded for draw consistency.
- Act 3 — Scale to the moon. Every Defragment pick is a priority. Loop doubles Orb passive triggers. You should be blocking 40+ per turn by now.
- Act 4 — Seek is crucial for turn-1 setup. Core Surge + Biased Cognition locks in permanent Focus.
Relic Synergies
💎 Best Relics for This Build
- Data Disk — Start with +1 Focus. Immediate value from turn 1.
- Inserter — Gain an Orb slot every 2 turns. Eventually infinite slots.
- Frozen Core — Replace a starter Relic; gain a Frost Orb when you end your turn with empty slots.
- Runic Capacitor — Start with 3 extra Orb slots. Instant power spike.
- Gold-Plated Cables — Your rightmost Orb's passive triggers an additional time.
- Emotion Chip — If you lose HP, trigger all Orb passives. Punish-safe.
Common Mistakes
- Over-channeling — Don't fill your slots with Lightning if you have no Focus. 3 base damage per Lightning orb is terrible.
- Skipping Capacitor — 3 Orb slots is the default. You need 5-7 slots for this build to truly scale.
- Taking too many Attacks — Once you have Frost up, you don't need extra attacks. Draw consistency is more valuable.
