Infested Prism Rework Guide: v0.106 Enemy Balance Shift
The Infested Prism was one of six enemies reworked in v0.106.0, and it's become the most discussed non-boss encounter in the community. Previously a straightforward Act 2 elite that spawned parasites, the reworked Prism now uses Reflective Carapace, Parasite Burst, and a cascading spawn mechanic that punishes AoE-heavy decks. This guide explains exactly what changed, why it matters, and how to beat the new version.
What Changed in v0.106.0
Old Infested Prism (Pre-v0.106)
- 180 HP, spawned 2 parasites on Turn 1
- Parasites dealt 6-8 damage each turn
- Straightforward: kill parasites, then burn down Prism
- Weak to AoE โ one Conflagration or Blizzard cleared the entire board
New Infested Prism (Post-v0.106)
- 220 HP (+22% health increase)
- Reflective Carapace: First 2 turns, Prism takes -50% damage from attacks. Forces you to either stall or use non-attack damage.
- Parasite Swarm: Spawns 3 parasites on Turn 1 (up from 2), and each parasite killed has a 33% chance to split into 2 smaller parasites on death.
- Parasite Burst: When Prism drops below 50% HP, all living parasites explode for 10 damage each. This punishes the old "ignore parasites, burn Prism" strategy.
- Reinforced Shell: Gains 8 block at the start of every turn if any parasites are alive. You MUST clear parasites or the fight drags forever.
New Attack Pattern
- Turn 1: Spawn 3 Parasites + gain 8 Block (Reinforced Shell). Reflective Carapace active.
- Turn 2: Parasites attack (6-8 damage each) + Prism attacks for 12-15. Reflective Carapace still active.
- Turn 3: Prism heals 10 HP if parasites alive + spawns 1 replacement parasite. Reflective Carapace expires.
- Turn 4+: Standard attack cycle. Prism attacks for 15-18. Parasites attack for 6-8 each. Spawns replacement parasites every 3 turns.
- Below 50% HP: Triggers Parasite Burst โ ALL parasites explode for 10 damage each. If you left 3 parasites alive, that's 30 unavoidable damage.
How to Beat the New Prism
Strategy 1: Surgical Parasite Removal
Kill parasites one at a time with single-target damage. This avoids the split mechanic (splits only trigger on death, but single-target kills are more controlled). Once parasites are dead, Prism loses Reinforced Shell and you can burn it down safely.
- Best cards: Blade Dance (Silent), Claw (Defect), Soul Harvest (Necrobinder)
- Avoid: Mass AoE on Turn 1 โ you'll trigger splits and make the fight harder
Strategy 2: Ignore Parasites, Tank the Burst
If you have massive block generation (Barricade, Frost Orbs, Feel No Pain), you can ignore parasites, burn Prism to 50%, and block the Burst damage. Then clean up.
- Requires: 30+ consistent block per turn
- Best for: Ironclad Exhaust, Defect Frost
- Risk: Prism heals 10 HP every 3 turns while parasites live โ fight drags
Strategy 3: Doom / Execute Bypass
Necrobinder can apply Doom to Prism, ignore the parasites entirely, and execute Prism at 40-50% HP before Parasite Burst triggers. This is the fastest and most consistent strategy if you have the Doom cards.
Character Matchups
- Ironclad: Slightly harder. Cleave and Whirlwind trigger splits. Switch to Uppercut / Heavy Blade for single-target removal. Exhaust engine still works โ Feel No Pain blocks the Burst.
- Silent: Easier. Blade Dance + Accuracy kills parasites precisely. Catalyst poison ignores Carapace and ticks down Prism while you handle parasites.
- Defect: Harder. Blizzard triggers splits. Use Claw or Ball Lightning for precision. Frost orbs block everything.
- Necrobinder: Easier. Doom ignores Carapace. Skeleton minions tank parasites while you stack Doom. Execute before Burst triggers.
- Regent: Neutral. Starfall AoE triggers splits. Use Parry to block and Command for single-target chip damage.
Relic Impact
- Torii (S) โ Parasite attacks deal 6-8 damage. Torii reduces this to 1. Completely trivializes parasite chip damage.
- Tingsha (A) โ Discard builds benefit from the longer fight. More discards = more Tingsha procs.
- Bronze Scales (B) โ Thorns damage kills parasites passively, but triggers splits. Risky but can work.
- Paper Krane (B) โ Enemies with Weak deal less damage. Prism and parasites both affected.
Community Verdict
The Infested Prism rework achieved its goal โ it's no longer an "AoE and win" freebie. The fight now tests your deck's ability to handle:
- Damage mitigation during Carapace turns
- Single-target precision (or the block to tank Burst)
- Sustained damage (220 HP + healing)
Overall difficulty increased from B-Tier to A-Tier. It's now a legitimate gear check that can end runs if your deck lacks either precision damage or massive block.
