Regent Sly & Star Build — Command the Battlefield
The Regent is the most tactically complex character in Slay the Spire 2. Their core mechanics — Sly, Stars, and Commands — create a layered decision-making system that rewards careful planning. This guide teaches you how to generate Sly, convert it into Stars, and unleash devastating Starfall finishers.
Understanding Regent's Mechanics
Sly (🧠 Strategy Resource)
Sly is a stacking buff that improves your cards. Many Regent cards have conditional bonuses: "If you have Sly, do X." Each Sly stack represents tactical advantage. You can have unlimited Sly stacks, making it the Regent's primary scaling vector.
Stars (⭐ Burst Resource)
Stars are a currency you accumulate through Sly-generating effects. Unlike Sly, Stars are meant to be spent — primarily via Starfall, which converts all Stars into massive AOE damage. Think of Stars as your "ult meter."
Commands (👑 Tactical Choices)
Each turn, the Regent receives random Commands (bonuses for specific actions). Following a Command generates Sly. Tactical Genius expands your Command options, giving you more flexibility.
S-Tier Core Cards
👑 Win Condition Combo
Feint → Cunning Plan → Loyal Subject → Starfall = Infinite scaling loop. Every Sly becomes a Star, and Stars get cashed out for screen-clearing damage.
| Card | Tier | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Feint | A | 0-cost Sly + Block. Best Sly generator in the game. Always take. |
| Cunning Plan | A | 2 Sly + draw 2. Card advantage plus scaling in one package. |
| Tactical Genius | S | More Commands = more Sly opportunities. The build's engine. |
| Loyal Subject | A | Every Sly is now also a Star. Doubles your scaling speed. |
| Starfall | S | Your finisher. 30 Stars × base damage = 210+ AOE. One-shots everything. |
| Precision Strike | A | Scales with Sly. At 10 Sly, deals 37+ damage for 1 energy. |
| Throne Room | A | Double your next card. Doubling Cunning Plan = 4 Sly + 4 draw. |
| Star Ascension | A | Stars persist after Starfall. Enables repeated nuking. |
Build Variants
Pure Sly Engine (Balanced)
Priority: Tactical Genius → Feint → Precision Strike → Cunning Plan
The most consistent approach. Stack Sly to ~15-20 and let Precision Strike carry your damage. Master of Arms converts Sly generation into Block, keeping you safe.
Star Combo (Burst)
Priority: Loyal Subject → Cunning Plan → Starfall → Star Ascension
Go all-in on Stars. With Loyal Subject + Star Ascension, you can Starfall every 3-4 turns without losing progress. Best for boss fights.
Command Focus (Utility)
Priority: Tactical Genius+ → Outmaneuver → Cunning Plan → Royal Guard
Generate so much Sly from Commands that your Royal Guard becomes a 30+ damage nuke every time. Outmaneuver gives massive Energy turns.
Stage-by-Stage Game Plan
- Act 1 — Take Feint and Precision Strike early. Royal Guard is decent block. First Cunning Plan is an auto-pick.
- Act 1 Boss — You should have 3-5 Sly by boss. Precision Strike will be dealing 16+ damage. Don't force Stars yet.
- Act 2 — Tactical Genius is your key unlock. With it, every turn generates Sly. Consider Loyal Subject if you're building toward Starfall.
- Act 2 Boss — With 10+ Sly and Tactical Genius, your turns generate consistent value. Throne Room on Cunning Plan is a huge power spike.
- Act 3 — Time to add Starfall and Star Ascension. You should have 20+ Stars per fight. Starfall easily hits 150+ AOE.
- Act 4 — Star Ascension is essential for the Act 4 boss gauntlet. You need to Starfall multiple times. Diplomatic Immunity blocks debuffs.
Relic Synergies
💎 Best Relics for This Build
- Crown of Stars — Start each combat with 3 Stars. Instant acceleration.
- Tactical Map — Gain 1 extra Command choice each turn. Sly generation doubled.
- Royal Scepter — When you gain Sly, gain 1 Block. Passive defense while scaling.
- Ambition Stone — Stars deal 50% more damage. Direct Starfall buff.
- Commander's Baton — Following a Command gives +1 Energy. Massive tempo.
Common Mistakes
- Starfalling too early — Don't fire Starfall at 5 Stars. Wait until 15+ for meaningful impact.
- Ignoring Commands — Commands aren't optional flavor. Following them is how you scale. Track your options every turn.
- Over-prioritizing Stars without Sly — Stars come from Sly. No Sly = no Stars. Build the engine first.
- Skipping block cards — Regent's block package (Royal Guard, Courtly Defense, Master of Arms) is strong. Don't go all-in on Sly and forget defense.
